I was going to write a short post about our trip down to Children’s Hospital today to once again say “Thank you” to the nurses and to deliver some Christmas comfort to those who will be inpatients on Christmas day. I have great difficulty keeping it short. :)
Sam woke up with a cough this morning so when we arrived at the hospital she was required to wear a mask. She wasn’t too happy about it. I did my best to explain why it was required and she reluctantly left it on.
It was interesting to both Mike and I that we had difficulty remembering how to get to the Heme/Onc unit, though it didn’t take long for use to recall the previously familiar route. It was nice to see a couple of the nurses who had cared for Sam 5 years ago (I wish I had gotten a photo).

Sam so badly wanted to explore the unit especially once she saw the bikes and cars and when she saw patient’s artwork at the unit coordinator’s desk. I had to explain a few times that the toys are for the patients only.
When we left the hospital Sam, James and I walked over to the Ronald McDonald House. Sam enjoyed the walk and was thrilled to see Ronald on the bench welcoming everyone to the house. She wanted to go inside, but I again explained that right now due to her cough we shouldn’t go. She and I did talk about going again to see it when she’s feeling better.
Here are some photos of our little Sam from her first Christmas. I am so thankful for the generosity of family, friends, and many strangers who helped make that Christmas a little easier and happier. It felt good to know we could do a little something today and to be able to pay it forward.

Thank you again for donating (& delivering) the blankets and quilts for Katie's Comforters Guild!
So glad that you can look back on your time at SCH & RMcDH with gratitude. Though I'm sorry for the reason, I'm grateful that we met you & your family during that difficult time for all of us. Knowing that your sweet Mandi & David were in school together was a comfort to me. I always loved seeing her smiling face during those hard days.
how wonderful that you give back like that! The nurses at Children's all over the states are angels!
