This weekend Mike had the opportunity to play Santa in a Girl Scouts fundraiser for his granddaughter Jordan. Of course we had to stop by and offer support. Initially the kids didn’t know what to think.
Even without the beard they seemed to not really know what to think.
After Mike took off the beard I told Sam and James to give Daddy a big kiss. That didn’t happen. Sam just looked at me like I was crazy and James...well he was done. Who knew a red wooly suit and hat would have such a strange effect on our children.
The idea of Santa has always been a bit tricky. I believe in Jesus and that is why we celebrate Christmas. As for Mike, he was always big on Santa. Mandi has voiced that she feels that I’ve “robbed her of a real Christmas” by taking the magic away and not allowing her to believe in Santa. When Sam came home from school the other day she informed me that ALL the kids in her class believe in Santa, "but he's not real Mom, right?" I think this year we’ll look into borrowing some of the books from the church library that may help ease some of the confusion.
